Cherry Blossoms in DC

an FYI...The blooming of the Japanese Cherry Trees with their elegant blossoms is an annual National event in Washington, DC preceded by much history, pomp and circumstance.  There is a parade, daily activities for families, free concerts, and much, much more.  Visit the website for the National Cherry Blossom Festival for details, information on past festivals, and memorabilia available for purchase.

These photos were taken in West Potomac Park on Saturday, April 1, 2006 @6:00a.m.  Thinking that we (Ed and I) would be there by dawn's first light, we left Bowie around 5:30 a.m.  However, by the time we got to the area, there were no parking spaces and already gobs of folks walking around.  There was no place to just stop and take a picture and the U.S. Park Police were there to make sure you didn't so traffic could keep flowing.
The sight of hundreds of these trees in full bloom is beyond words.

This one has a flash back of me in the car taking the photo. It looks surreal.
